"The Ducks made their first player-personnel move of an earlier-than-anticipated offseason Tuesday, signing rookie center Ryan Carter to a three-year contract worth $1.875 million.
Carter, 24, will receive $525,000 next season, $625,000 in 2009-10 and $725,000 in 2010-11, giving the Ducks an annual salary-cap hit of $625,000. He will stand to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the deal."

"I think he can play multiple roles on our team and he adds to our character," Burke said. "Like I've said that Chris Kunitz is a Swiss army knife-type player, Ryan has some of that. He is gritty enough to play with the hard-hat group and skilled enough to play in our top six."
